April is a big month for Pensacola's 1859 Historic Landmark

Pensacola Lighthouse & Museum
If you haven't visited Pensacola's Lighthouse and Museum, you definitely should. Locals and tourists enjoy this piece of Pensacola's rich history. The museum is open daily and features indoor and outdoor history exhibits as well as the lighthouse. Visitors are able to climb the 177 steps to the top of this historic landmark. The present day Richard C. Callaway Museum is the 1869 lighthouse keepers quarters and is open for touring. Admission is typically $5 for adult ($3 active duty military) and $3 for children under 12.
Located on NAS and situated along Pensacola Bay, the lighthouse offers serene views of NAS Pensacola, Southwest Pensacola, Perdido Key, and of distant Fort Pickens across Pensacola Bay.
Florida Lighthouse Days
This weekend, Saturday & Sunday, April 14 and 15, 2012, is Florida Lighthouse Days at the Pensacola Lighthouse. Admission is free to the Pensacola Lighthouse museum. Family friendly entertainment will be provided and will include music, history rich activities, and hay rides to name a few. The lighthouse will be open for climbing to those who are 7+ and/or at least 44 inches tall. Admission to the museum and event is free, however, there is a $5 fee for adults and $3 fee for children to climb the tower.
Blue Angels Practice
April is a very exciting month for the Pensacola Lighthouse because it is also the kick off of the Navy Blue Angels season. The lighthouse has a perfect view of the runway where the Blue Angels take off (and land!) at the Naval Air Station Pensacola.
The Blue Angels practice weekly Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at NAS through October. Tours are open to the public. The popular event books fast and far in advance. Tickets are $15 per person and reservations must be made prior. If the tour is booked, and you still want to catch the show, you are able to view the show from the ground for free at the Naval Air Museum across the road.
Intern John and I recently went to this tour last week and had a fabulous time. Really, it's the closest I think I've been to the Blue Angels. Everyone enjoyed themselves and I was able to snap these photos to share with you guys. To see more photos of the Blue Angels, follow us on Pinterest.
Florida Lighthouse Challenge
Next weekend, April 20 and 21, 2012 is the Florida Panhandle Lighthouse challenge! In addition to the Pensacola Lighthouse, lighthouse fanatics will attempt to tour the following lighthouses in two days: Cape St. George, Crooked River, St. Marks (only lighthouse that you can't climb), and Cape San Blas.
Year Round Fun at the Pensacola Lighthouse & Museum
The Pensacola Lighthouse also offers moonlit ghost tours and a couples sunset tour!
They even host weddings. And of course, the lighthouse is right across from the award winning Naval Aviation Museum with IMAX so you may want to plan a visit to both on the same day. Additionally, many days after practice, the Blue Angels offer autographs at NAS.
For more information about the Pensacola Lighthouse, visit their website or call (850) 393- 1561. Watch a cool tour with views from the lighthouse.
