If you haven't been to Mobile's Bellingrath Gardens, you are definitely missing out!

Looking for somewhere new to explore with the family? If you've never been to Bellingrath Gardens- you must go this weekend. It's definitely a  whole day trip, but one that family members of all ages will enjoy.

Bellingrath Gardens and Home is located at 12401 Bellingrath Gardens Rd, in Theodore, Alabama 326582.  The trip from Pensacola is around 80 miles, or about 1.5 hours drive.

Bellingrath gardens encompasses over 65 acres in rural Theodore, Alabama and is one of the areas largest tourist attractions. Garden enthusiasts from all over the country visit Bellingrath yearly to tour their award winning gardens. Families have been touring the gardens for almost a century- the gardens have been open to the public since 1932.

In addition to touring the gardens, you can take a guided tour through the Bellingrath Museum Home.  The home is a massive 10,500 feet with 15 rooms overlooking the Fowl River. Constructed in 1935, the home was Mr. and Mrs. Bellingraths personal residence.  The home has been well preserved with all interior fixtures and furnishings dating from the 1930's and 1940's.

For even more fun, take the River Cruise offered Wednesday through Sunday at the gardens. Alabama Cruises offer several sightseeing tours aboard different style boats. Bellingrath Gardens and Home is also famous for their lights at Christmas time. Thousands visit yearly from all over the Gulf Coast to enjoy the Magic Lights at Christmas time.

The gardens are open daily from 8 am to 5pm with hours extended until 9pm during Christmas light season. Admission is as follows:
  • River cruise, Gardens, and Home- $28.50 per adult, $18.50 per child with children under 5 free
  • Gardens & Home- $20 per adult, $10 per child with children under 5 free
  • Gardens- $12 per adult, $6.50 per child with children under 5 free

The gardens were originally purchased and developed to be a fishing camp for Mr. Bellingrath.  With over 65 acres of land, many wildlife make their home here. Common wildlife seen during a visit to Bellingrath Gardens include: various birds, butterflies, lizards, squirrels, waterfowl, duck, swan, fish, dragonflies, and more.
