It's time again for the Pensacola Interstate Fair

The Pensacola Interstate Fair!
Pensacola Interstate Fair draws thousands of local residents for family fun.

Live music at the Pensacola Interstate Fair ~

Every year in October The Pensacola Interstate Fair rolls into Pensacola bringing fun, food, and lots of exciting rides. Children can enjoy the petting zoo and then jump onto a child sized roller coaster. Mom and dad can catch a country music concert or take a stroll through one of the exhibits like the custom car show or Harley Davidson show.

The fair is host to many other interesting exhibits including:
  • fine art exhibit
  • upscale flower show
  • a gem and minerals exhibit, and a livestock exhibit.
Because this is an interstate event, it attracts exhibits and participants from all over the country. One interesting exhibit is the "snake woman", said to be half snake and half woman.

The fair also hosts many live music performances. With more than 10 live acts signed up to perform this year, there is something for everybody. Some of the acts performing are Little Richard, James Wesley, Fly by Radio, and many other popular groups.

Parking is only $5, and the fair provides many nights of inexpensive and discounted wristband deals so everyone can enjoy the excitement and thrill of a large fun-filled traveling event. The phyiscal address of the Pensacola Fairgrounds is 6655 W. Mobile Hwy., Pensacola, FL 32526.

This is just one more example of one of the many reasons to call Pensacola home. Many call Pensacola home because of natural beauty of Pensacola Beach or the historical downtown area, then others choose to live here because of the family friendly culture and small town feel in an ever growing city.

Now is a great time to invest in homes in the Pensacola area. Interest rates are low and inventory is high making Pensacola and the surrounding areas an investors paradise.

Cable providers In Pensacola

What’s on T.V. tonight?

A question asked by many after a long day at work or school. Cable television is a great way to unwind and take your mind away from the stresses and troubles of daily routines. It can be a learning tool, a way to find laughter and joy, and a great way to relate to and share experiences with co-workers and friends.
Here in Pensacola and the surrounding areas there are several choices to pick from when deciding on a cable provider. Not only does Pensacola offer a local cable company, Cox Communications in Escambia county, Mediacom Cable in Santa Rosa county,  but also satellite providers such as DIRECTV and Dish Network, and now Apple T.V., and U-Verse by AT&T.

When making a decision on which service is right for you and your family, there are several things to keep in mind and will need to be researched:

·         Are there any restrictions to installing a satellite dish on the property you are renting or buying? Does the HOA restrict the placement of the dish? Does the management company require pre-approval prior to installing a dish?

  • ·         Will there be a contract for service? If so, how long is the commitment for? Will it be transferable if you have to leave prior to the fulfillment of the contract time.
  • ·         What type of programming package are you most interested in? Some cable providers provide more or less channels than others. Sports packages, pay-per-view options, and premium channels are a few examples of the choices you have.

  • What type of equipment will be needed?
  •  What is the price compared to the other choices available?

With this many choices of cable providers in Pensacola, Pace, and Milton and a bit of research and information gathering most will find the right fit and be enjoying the nightly broadcasts that provide a great amount of entertainment.
Needless to say, Pensacola is a great city to live in and visit. It offers a wide range of choices for housing to buy and/or rent; from beautiful white sandy beaches to pristine woodland settings in the country. Pensacola offers housing price ranges from very affordable up to the millions of dollars. With a growing university and the large military presence, Pensacola is an investor’s paradise.

Top 3 Ways to Spot a Craigslist Scam!

Craigslist Scammers on the Rise!
Homes for sale, for rent, and even automobiles are being scammed on Pensacola Craigslist.

With craigslist scams on the rise, here are our top 3 tips on how to spot craigslist scam ads.

1. Look at the contact information (or lack thereof!)
  • Come on, if they really want to rent their home, they will provide you a local phone number.  If there is no phone number, it's likely a scam.
  • Similiarly, most of the scams we have seen have an email address that is some variation of the property owners name.  The scammers use county tax records and usually a free website host to create a fake email address using the owners name.
  • Also, the biggest red flag is when they ask you to send over your personal information or money orders to another country. Most of the scammers do not live in the United States. Their reasons for leaving the US vary, but they most always ask you to send money to another country.
  • Most scammers communicate via email solely, and often misspell words or have broken, improper English.
2. The price looks good; almost too good to be true! Scammers always drop the rent on the house. Take our infographic to the right- these are actual homes that we rented, with acutal prices, and the actual prices that Craigslist Scammers used.  Most of the rents are reduced in half of what market rent is. They make you think you are getting a great deal, with reduced rent and deposits, but in actuality they are trying to take advantage of you. Realistically, who rents their home for half of the actual value?

3. Google the address.  You should do this before you rent or purchase any home in the Pensacola area.  Do you see it listed with another real estate agency for sale or for rent? Scammers are even taking homes listed for sale and offering them for rent online. If you see a real estate professional attached to that address, call them!  Also, another good way is to drive by the home. Many of them have For Sale or For Rent signs in the front yard which you can verify by calling the number on the sign.

For more information on Craigslist Scams, examples of scams, and how to report them, visit our in-depth blog here. If you are looking for a (real) home to rent in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Pace, Milton, or Navarre, visit our website at www.PensacolaRealtyMasters.com or give us a call at (850) 473-3983.

6 Ways to Decorate a Pumpkin without carving!

Easy, Fun, and Cheap ideas to decorate your Pumpkins~
6 Ways to decorate a pumkpin without carving into it!

In trying to keep up with fads, this year we decided to decorate our pumpkins instead of carving them.

Painted Spiderweb pumpkin.
We scoured the Internet to bring you these unique, inexpensive and creative ways to decorate your holiday pumpkins. We found everything to decorate the pumpkins at the dollar store and walmart. Each decorated pumpkin cost between $2 and $4.
1. Painted Pumpkin- Use acrylic paint and a paint brush to decorate your pumpkin. You can use stencils, freehand, or use the natural lines of the pumpkin to easily create a fun spider web effect!
Wire decorated pumpkin~
Paint your favorite sports teams, a monogram, or even your family pet- the possibilities with this technique are endless.

2. Wire Pumpkin- This contemporary look is rather easy to create. We purchased 2 packs of green floral wire and wire cutters from the local dollar store. The wire is fairly easy to shape.  Once you have the wire shaped, push it through the skin of the pumpkin.

Once again, you can use an endless variety of shapes and decorations with this idea!

Fake pumpkin decorated with thumb tacks.

3. Metallic Pumpkin- Insert thumb tacks (silver, gold, or colored) into a pumpkin to create this metallic effect. We used a $1 fake pumpkin and about 250 thumb tacks to create creative and interesting mini pumpkin for under $3.
Scary eyed pumpkin
4. Scary Eye Pumpkin- This look is very easy and doesn't take a lot of time, skill or effort. Using regular glue, we secured eyes of all sizes (found at the dollar store in a $1 bag) to the pumpkin.

You could also use this technique with rhinestones and glitter to create an ultra girly pumpkin. Or cover it in football and baseball stickers for a macho look.
 5. The Candy Pumpkin- This seems to be the favorite among our employees and clients.

Candy pumpkin using a fake pumpkin!
We used a fake pumpkin here and half a bag of dum dum popsicles to create this refillable candy bowl for our clients.

We also saw some cute pumpkins where candy was adhered to the side of the pumpkin and where several different types of candy was used.

If you are creative enough, you can use any type of candy to create a cheap, edible pumpkin.
Kids of all ages can decorate this pumpkin!
6. Pumpkin Character- This look involves purchasing a kit. We got this witch kit from the dollar store; they also had Frankenstein, a ghost, and several other ideas. The peices come with pegs on the back to poke through either a fake or real pumpkin.

Enjoy your holiday decorating.

Navarre Beach Sand Sculpting Festival

Master Sculptors meet in Navarre Beach~
National Championship held in Navarre Beach draws hundreds.

This past weekend, September 28th through September 30, 2012,  Navarre Beach hosted the 3rd Annual Navarre Beach Sand Sculpting Contest.

65 tons of sand was dumped onto Navarre Beach last Monday. Master sculptors worked together for days to complete the main entry sculpture which featured local attractions in Santa Rosa County  including the beautiful beaches, the Gulf Breeze Zoo, and Blackwater River as well as local sponsors.

2012 Sand Sculpture Contest along Navarre Beach
Sand Sculpture along Navarre Beach during annual contest~
World wide, there are 42 Master Sculptors for "soft pack" sculpting and we had 11 of them right here at Navarre Beach! "Soft Pack" sculpting is a little different due to the type and texture of the sand. The sugar fine sand on Navarre Beach doesn't "pack" so it is very difficult to get it to stay in place or to do tall sculptures. This is why the majority sculptures are all low to the ground and have a lot of curves to them.

3rd Annual Sand Sculpture Contest in Navarre Beach, FL~
Individual sculptors worked feverishly from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon, when the winner was crowned "National Soft Pack Sand Sculpting Champion!" Spectators voted with quarters on a point system to determine the People's Choice Award. Each quarter was worth 1 point and at the end of the competition. The monney collected from the votes was donated to our local United Way!
Despite some cloudy weather, the festival was successful, complete with fair style food and unique vendors, including one artist who made sculptures out of recycled tires.

After the competition was over, all 65 tons of sand was leveled back onto Navarre Beach. This is just one of the fun, family friendly events held at Navarre Beach annually.

Pensacola: It's October and it's 80° Outside!

Florida: The Sunshine State
Fall has arrived, but the cooler weather has not made it to Pensacola!

Florida is a state with few seasons. Walk outside, and it very much feels like summer in the Pensacola area despite the official declaration of fall. And it definitely still looks like summer at Pensacola Beach!

October morning Sunrise in Pensacola Beach~ October is one of our favorite weather months in Pensacola!

This weeks weather for the Pensacola, FL area~ October 2012
Last week, we experienced highs like 87° and 90° and next week we are forecasted highs in the low 80° range. The majority of Florida's climate (including the Pensacola area) is classified as "humid subtropical" with different climate zones for the Southern portion of Florida.
Despite Florida being known as the Sunshine State,Pensacola has a defined rainy season which runs from June to September.  The rain comes in the form of scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially early afternoon when temperatures reach 90° and higher.

A typical summer day brings temperatures in the high nineties with a heat index over 100°, lows in the upper 70s, and a high humidity level. After a hot and humid summer, we look forward to the cooler temperatures that October brings!
Milder temperatures bring dragonflies and butterflies to the area!
With less rain and more mild temperatures, October and November are two of the best months to visit Pensacola and Pensacola Beach. Monarch butterflies make their way through our area during November. The leaves start to change colors in November. The holidays come and go and the New Year is here before we know it.

January brings the coldest temperatures with lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s.  On average, Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties only have temperatures below freezing level 14 times per year. During winter, we never plow snow or salt our driveways, and our snowmen are constructed from sand.

The mild climate, numerous golf courses, and small town atmosphere attract thousands of snowbirds to the beaches of Perdido Key and Pensacola Beach during the winter months. Snowbirds receive discounted monthly rental rates during the "off season" when beach front condos and homes become significantly more affordable.

By March and April, we are back at the beach in our swim suits aniticipating another beautiful, hot summer to enjoy again!
