Pensacola Beach Ball gets facelift!

Pensacola Beach Ball ready for Summer
After months of renovations, Pensacola's iconic beach ball is back~

New paint job on Pensacola Beach Ball!

The renovations to the Pensacola Beach Ball located on Casino Beach are finally complete! Repairs began in early March 2012 and are completed as of this week.  Apparently, the job was supposed to be completed by Memorial Day weekend but the painters just missed the deadline. Maybe the out of town painters took one too many long lunches on the beach? We don't blame them.
Realty Masters has been watching and documenting the progress ~

March 25, 2012~ Working fast!

April 23, 2012~ All white!
April 10, 2012~ All grey~

April 30, 2012~ right on schedule!
May 30, 2012~ All done!

The painters were reportedly from Alabama and were paid over $175,000 to complete the new paint job. The Beach Ball stands over 125 feet in the air, which sure makes it a difficult commodity to paint.

The iconic Beach Ball has been a Pensacola landmark for many years. The Beach Ball was originally owned by Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (the local water company) and was used at one time to store water for Pensacola Beach. Since then, the Beach Ball was sold to the Santa Rosa Island Authority who currently owners and is in charge of maintaing the Beach Ball. Three large water storage tanks (think blue with dolphins on them) have since been added near the beach bridge. The Beach Ball is one of, if not the most, photographed icon on Pensacola Beach. It can be seen from both main beaches, including Casino Beach and Quietwater Beach.

Veteran's Memorial Park & Admiral Mason Park in Downtown Pensacola

Honor our Military this Memorial Day~
It's a great weekend to visit the Veteran's Memorial Park to pay respect to our military service members.

On this sacred day we salute more than 1 million veterans that reside and serve in our area. Our local military bases include service members from all branches of the service who serve or have served at NAS Pensacola, NAS Whiting Field, Corry Station, Hurlburt Field AFB and Eglin AFB.

Wall South Memorial ~
The Veteran's Memorial Park in Downtown Pensacola has been a permanent fixture since 1992. The park sits on over 5 acres overlooking Pensacola Bay off Bayfront Pkwy and includes several memorials including the famous Wall South Memorial which honor our military service members. The park has over a dozen memorials including those dedicated to WWI, WWII, WWII Submarine Lifesaving League, the Korean Conflict, Childrens of Vietnam Veterans memorial, a Vietnam helicopter, and many more!~

There will be a special Memorial Day Ceremony held this Sunday, May 27th, at 1:30pm at Veterans Memorial Park. They will also be breaking ground on the new Marine Corps Aviation Tower that is going to be added to the Veteran's Memorial Park.

Our in house veteran, Bob Supinger, will be at the Ceremony at 1:30pm, wearing a Vietnam Veteran Hat and a Realty Masters badge. Seek him out with your military and housing questions.

Admiral Mason Park in downtown Pensacola~ Plenty of seating and nice park to enjoy a picnic
Admiral Mason Park in downtown Pensacola

In 2011, an additional 2.5 acre park dubbed the Admiral Mason Park was added nearby.  Once a flat recreation area, the park was given a multi-million dollar makeover including a lake, fountain, new walkways, and plenty of seating. The park was named after Admiral Charles Perry Mason who served as Pensacola's mayor in the 1950's and 1960's.

In addition to being a nice place to have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful weather and views of Pensacola Bay, these two parks double as a place to pay homage to those who have served!
Another view of Admiral Mason Park which is overlooking Pensacola Bay in downtown Pensacola.

We are proud to honor our service men and woman everyday. Approximately 50% of our clients are affiliated with the military including many of our agents who have served. To show appreciation to our military clientelle, we offer military discounts to our active duty service members. Thank you for your dedication and committement to serving our country.

Make sure to show your support to our troops by visiting the Veteran's Memorial Park and Wall South Memorial in downtown Pensacola.

Art Show & Market in one
While the Palafox Market is the best place to buy local produce, produce is not the only reason to come to Palafox Market. Think of the Market as a free art show, too! Local vendors and artists have their goods on display and for sale.  You can find virtually every type of art including antiques, paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, crafts including gifts, hand sewn items, clothing, pottery, soaps, candles, lotions, "green" items, and much more.
Take this guy below for example- he is a local artist who hand crafts stringed instruments with a unique style, sound and look.

Preparing for your visit to Palafox Market
1. Pack your reusable shopping bag. It's the green thing to do!
2. Make sure to have cash. To avoid hefty ATM fees nearby, stock up on cash as most vendors only accept cash.
3. Be patient while trying to find parking. While parking isn't hard to find early in the morning, by around noon, the parking situation downtown can become intense. Many Saturdays, other events are held downtown which may cause traffic nearby so plan where you intend to park ahead of time, pump enough gas, and enjoy the ride.

Tip: Check out this valuable map on the Palafox Market's website which shows parking available nearby, other shops open on Saturday in downtown, and ATM's nearby.
Pensacola area residents fill the medians of N Palafox Street during the Palafox Market one May Saturday morning !
Occassionally special events are brought to the market including antique car shows, live music, and more. Keep up with the Palafox Market on Facebook or visit their website for more information including information on how to become a vendor yourself at the Palafox Market.

Residents come from all over Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties in Florida and Baldwin County in Alabama to visit the market. In fact, the Palafox Market won an award in 2011 for being one of America's Favorite Farmers Market. We love our trips to the Palafox Market and are thankful that its home is in nearby downtown Pensacola.

Family Fun: Panhandle Butterfly House!

Butterfly house in Navarre reopens for Summer
One of the areas favorite seasonal attractions opens this Thursday~

The Panhandle Butterfly House is opening for its 2012 season this Thursday, May 24, 2012.  The Panhandle Butterfly House has been a popular local attraction since opening in May 1997. It's located at 8581 Navarre Parkway, Navarre, FL 32566 at the foot of the Navarre Beach Bridge.

Sample of Mounted Butterfly Collection at Butterfly House
The butterfly house will be open Thursday through Saturday through early Fall. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. Group tours (10+ people) are available Monday- Wednesday with appointments.
The butterfly house is an amazing educational exhibit with dozens of live butterflies on display and can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. The building is surrounded (inside and out) by beautiful gardens.
The Butterfly House is composed of two different areas. The first is an indoor museum of mounted butterflies and other educational displays. The second is a large screened in gazebo room with plush vegetation throughout. Butterflies scatter throughout while visitors observe them in their natural habitat.

My niece having fun at the Butterfly House last fall~ she had a great time!
I really enjoyed my visit to the Butterfly House. We spent about 25 minutes total exploring and observing butterflies and then went to Navarre park to finish off a fun (Free) afternoon.
Here are some pictures I took of butterflies inside the butterfly house when I went last Fall:

Since the home is operated only through community support via donations and volunteer work, the Butterfly House is always looking for dedicated volunteers and monetary donations.  In addition to assisting guests, volunteers are needed to maintain the gardens and facility.

Like the Butterfly House on Facebook. or visit their website for more information.

Playground set at waterfront Navarre Park~
There is a huge waterfront park (Navarre Park) located next door to the Panhandle Butterfly House. There are playground areas, swings, a little beach, picnic tables, restrooms, basketball hoops, splash pad and more.
So pack a picnic, grab the kids' bathing suits and head on down to Navarre to support the Panhandle Butterfly House this weekend!

Pensacola Beach: Voted in Top 10 beaches (again!)

Pensacola Beach: "Sand like Spun Sugar"
Local beach wins mention in Top 10 American Beaches list!

Pensacola Beach~ beautiful white sand

Our hometown beaches on the Gulf Coast made the list of top 10 beaches as named by American Profile Magazine. Categories included best wildlife, best overall beach, and best surfing.

Gulf Coast Beaches including Santa Rosa Island and Pensacola Beach made the list for Best Sand.  The experts described our beaches sand like "spung sugar." Maybe we are biased, but we definitely agree our sand is the best to dig your toes in!

What do you think?

Pensacola Beach, FL ~
Other beaches that made the list include Sanibel Island, FL for best sea shells, Sleeping Dunes Bear National Lakeshore in Empire, MI as best landlocked beach for their 200+ feet tall sand dunes, Cape Cod, MA and Cape May, NJ as best historic beaches, and Venice Beach, CA and Coronado Beach, CA for best sunset beaches. To view the full list, visit their website here.

See you at the beach!
